Isle of Wight Industrial Park Fire
On Thursday January 18th at 1022am Stations 10 and 50, Carrollton and Smithfield were dispatched to the Isle of Wight Industrial Park for a commercial structure fire. Units arrived to find a working fire involving several vehicles burning inside the 250 by 100-foot multi-occupancy building. Due to the extreme heat being generated from the vehicles burning and the heavy fuel load inside the metal building coupled to the limited initial water supply the crews struggled to stop the fire from spreading to the entire building and its contents. Multiple master streams and hand lines were in operation throughout the incident as water was being supplied by a tanker shuttle operation and eventually water being pumped from a pond over 1000 feet from the fire. Multiple departments responded to include Stations 10, 30, 40, 50 & 60, Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue, Suffolk Fire, Surry Fire and Portsmouth Fire (Hazmat) as well as multiple state agencies. The cause was determined to be accidental and there were fortunately only a few minor injuries.
