Brush Fire Whippingham Pkwy
     
     

On Saturday April 3, 2010 around 1427 hrs CVFD responded to a reported brush fire on Whippingham Pkwy. Brush-10, Rescue-10, Zone-11 and Chief-10 responded. First arriving units found a rapidly moving, wind driven grass fire endangering a residential exposure and quickly knocked down the fire with forestry lines from B-10 preventing further damage to the structure. Fire was apparently accidentally caused by a spark from equipment being used by a grounds maintenance crew.

Friday, April 10th Station 10 was dispatched to a reported Gazebo on fire at the end of a pier.  Units arrived on scene to find a Gazebo still smoldering that had been burning for a while.  Homeowner stated when they woke up they noticed the Gazebo on the ground and had been burning for a while.  The fire was extinguished units cleared and returned to quarters.   

     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
Structure Fire (16000 blk Carrollton Blvd)        

Wednesday, April 8th Station 10 was dispatched to a structure fire at an apartment complex in the 16000 blk of Carrollton Blvd.  Units arrived on scene to find a whicker that had been on fire.  The chair was in the residence when it caught fire, fire had been put out prior to unit’s arrival.  This fire was caused by a burning candle.  Units cleared and returned to quarters.

  Stove Fire Villa Court

On March 26th Station’s 10 & 50 were dispatched to a reported structure fire at an apartment complex.  Quint 10 and Engine 10 arrived on scene and found a stove on fire.  Fire was put out, and stove was removed from the building and placed out back of the complex.  Units overhauled the kitchen and checked for extensions.
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
Brush Fire Lankford Lane        

On March 9th around 3:30 pm Station 10 and Suffolk Station 9 were dispatched to a report of a Brush Fire that was getting out of control.  Brush 10, Engine 10, and apparatus from Suffolk Station 9 arrived on scene to find a large brush fire.  It took crews a little while to get the fire under control.   Brush Fire Baltimore Lane      

On January 1st about 1422 hrs Station 10 was dispatched to a Brush Fire on Baltimore Ln.  Units arrived on scene to find about an acre on fire.  Engine 10 and Brush 10 were able to put the fire out and hit all of the hotspots.  More Photos

     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
Structure Fire (Carroll Bridge Road)        

On November 6th around 2004 hrs Stations 10, 50 & 60 were dispatched to a structure fire in the 15000 blk of Carroll Bridge Rd.  Rescue 10 responded with 4, Tanker 10 responded with 2.  Rescue 10 arrived as the 2nd due engine, and stretched the back up line from Engine 52.  Engine 52’s crew kept the fire contained to the room of origin.  Rescue 10 and Rescue 51’s crew overhauled the structure.  Units on scene:  Rescue 10, Tanker 10, Engine 51, Engine 52, Engine 53, Rescue 51, Medic 64 and Zone 60 with rehab trailer. Structure Fire (Bay Harbor Ln)        
On October 31st around 1307 hrs Station 10 and Station 50 were dispatched to a reported structure fire with smoke showing.  Apparatus from Station 10 and Station 50 responded and arrived on scene to find an attached garage with smoke showing.  Source was located and the structure was ventilated.  Home was turned back over to the home owner. more photos

     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
  Brush Fire 3431 Fort Huger

Dumpster Fire Bloom's Carrollton Blvd
     

On Monday, September 1, 2008 about 0929 hrs Station 10 was dispatched to a dumpster fire located behind Bloom’s on Carrollton Blvd.  Engine 10 responded to extinguish the fire; the dumpster was located on the backside of the grocery store next to the building. Early Morning Boat Fire end of Bay Harbor      

On Monday, September 1, 2008 about 0622 hrs Station 10, & Station 50 were dispatched to a report of a Boat on Fire.  Apparatus from both stations and the Police Boat from Smithfield Police Department responded to locate the Boat Fire.  The caller wasn’t sure of the exact location at the time the call came in.  The Boat was located at the end of Bay Harbor Lane at the dock.

     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     

On May 27th around 2330 hrs Station 10 and Station 50 were dispatched to a report structure fire.  Units arrived on scene to find a single story mason block structure with flames showing on the C & D side.  Members from Station 10 and Station 50 as well as Station 10 Fire Corp assisted on this call.  Fire was extinguished and the Virginia State Police Arson Investigator was notified.  Units returned to quarters around 0246 hrs on May 28th.

On March 2nd, Station 10 was dispatched at 7:23 am to a structure fire at 23261 Vellines Ln. Ch-10, C-10, Q-10, E-10, T-10, R-10,Sq-10, Z-10 and Z-11 responded. Structure Fire (20051 Oliver Dr )
At 4:47 hours on October 25th Station 10 and Suffolk Station 9 were dispatched for a reported structure fire on Olive Dr.  Car-10 arrived on scene with fire coming out of the window on D-Side.  Capt Rastatter assumed command and made contact with the owner to assure all occupants were out of the structure.  Chuckatuck Engine 9 arrived on scene and 2 1¾ hand lines were deployed to make a quick knock down on the fire. Capt Rawls arrived and assumed command and Capt Rastatter went to operations.  At 5:10 the fire had been knocked down and at 5:52 command advised fire out.  Quint 10, Rescue 10, Tanker 10, Engine 10 & Tanker 9 from Chuckatuck also assisted.  No injuries were reported at the fire.  Electrical problems were the source of the fire and all units returned to quarters at 6:55 am. Large Brush Fire New Towne Haven        
On September 30th at 1502 hrs Station 10 was dispatched for a report of a brush fire. Units arrived on scene to find a rather large brush fire that also involved a vehicle that was fully ingulfed in flames. Station 10, Suffolk Station 9(Chuckatuck Fire), Station 50 (Smithfield Fire Department). It took several hours to put the fire out and the last unit cleared the scene at 1750 hrs.

Diesel Fuel Spill      
On September 27th at 1300hrs a large box truck carrying water treatment chemicals came to a stop in the turning lane in front of Station 10 on Carrollton Blvd.  A fuel line had been ripped out of one of the saddle tanks on the vehicle and the contents of the tanks were flowing freely into the road way. On September 6th at 0120 hrs Station 10 was dispatched for a Structure Fire with Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department.  Tanker 10, Rescue 10, Quint 10, & Car 10, Suffolk Engine 29, Tanker 9, Car 9 responded.  Due to location of the Fire Departments Chuckatuck Fire Department arrived on scene first to advise working incident. Gas Leak
Natural Gas Leak New Strip Mall next to Bojangles      

At 0913 Station 10 units were dispatched to a natural gas leak in the 13000 block of Carrollton Blvd.  Quint 10 (Lt. Hubbard) and Engine 10 (Lt. Rodman) responded with 6 volunteers.  Lt. Chapin arrived on scene to find a 2 inch natural gas main ruptured and established Carrollton Blvd command.  Quint 10 laid a 250' 1 3/4" line while the gas company controlled the leak.  All units were cleared within an hour.

     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
     
Structure Fire (Dock Side Dr Rushmere)        

At 1846 while the Smithfield and Rushmere Fire Depts. were fighting a large brush fire in the north western part of the county, Rescue 10 (Lt. Nunez OIC) was moved up to Benn's Church Blvd.  To cover both Carrollton and Smithfield's first due.  At 2010 Smithfield and Rushmere were dispatched to a Structure fire on Dockside Drive in Rushmere.  Rescue 10 responded with 4 volunteers to the fire, arriving just behind Rushmere Engine 32.   Due to the structures distance from the road Brush 51 was called from Smithfield to assist in getting water to the fire.  Brush 51 drafted from the river for aprox. one hour while Carrollton and Rushmere firefighters worked together to control the blaze without damage to any of the surrounding exposures.  The Rescue cleared at 2146.

Structure Fire (Subjects reported trapped inside)      
On August 17 at 2128 hrs Station 10 and 50 were dispatched to a structure fire with subjects trapped at 10606 Smithsneck Rd. T10 was in the district and arrived first to find a 2 story wood frame structure with heavy fire showing from the BC corner with exposure involvement to a Honda civic. There were live power lines to the structure so Dominion power was request. 101 was advised that 2 adults and possibly 3 children were inside. 101 established Smithsneck Rd. command and placed Q10 in rescue mode upon their arrival. At 2324 hours on July 30th, Sta. 50 (Smithfield) and Sta. 10 were dispatched to a structure fire at 601 N. Church St. in Smithfield, the Gwaltney Packing Plant a part of Smithfield Foods. Q-10 responded with a crew of 5. Upon arrival at 2334 hours of the working fire, Q-10 was assigned to water supply while the crew was sent to staging to be utilized as needed for suppression operations. Q-10 utilized a hydrant on N. Bush Creek
Structure Fire Bush Creek Circle      
At 2222 hours on July 25th Sta. 10 and Sta. 50 (Smithfield) were dispatched to a reported structure fire, smoke coming from a residence at 24233 Bush Creek Cir. While responding Suffolk E-5 was requested to assist due to close proximity to the Suffolk line and comments on the extent of the fire. Brush Fire from Combine Fire      
On June 21st Station 10 & Suffolk Station 9 (Chuckatuck) were dispatched to a wheat field and combine on fire in the area of 21063 Longview Dr. Chuckatuck 109 (Chief Parsons) and Carrollton 105 (Capt. Cleaning Crew Saves Building
     

On June 6th at 2006 hrs Station 10 was toned out with Station 50 (Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department) to respond to the Isle of Wight Courthouse for a structure fire with smoke showing.  Quint 10 and Car 10 responded with Car 10 arriving on scene first to assist Station 50 followed by Quint 10.  Crews were already inside of the structure and quickly secured the power to the outlet that caused the fire.  There were no extensions and Quint 10 and Car 10 returned to quarters after being released by Station 50.  The cleaning crew was in the building cleaning after hours and saw the smoke and quickly contacted the 911 center to report the incident. At 0632 hours on March 21st, Station 10 was dispatched to a fire alarm at 23060 Channel Way. Q-10 responded with a crew of three (B. Brower, T. Nunez & J. Rodman). Brush Fire Surry County        

On March 10th Station 10 was dispatched mutual to Surry County to provide a water supply for a working brush/land fill fire. T-10 arrived and set up as a nurse tanker feeding Surry E-57. Over 16,000 gallon of water shuttled to T-10. Cleared by command and returned to quarters without further incident.

  Chimney Fire

204 Canon Dr - February 5th at 1110 hours, Station 10 & 50 were dispatched to a chimney fire at 204 Cannon Dr. First arriving Q-10 with 109 (Lt. Chuck Chapin) on board reported nothing showing. At 1117 109 established Cannon Command and crews from Q-10 & E-10 began investigating. SVFD E-52 arrived and assisted with T-10 and S-10A placed in staging on scene. Structure Fire 14478 Benns Church Blvd        

14478 Benns Church Blvd. - On February 3rd at 1718 hours Station 10 & 50 were dispatched to a reported  structure fire. 109 (Lt. C. Chapin) arrived to find light smoke showing from the rear of the structure. SVFD E-52, R-51, Q-10 & T-10 arrived with 103 (Asst. Chief S. Brower) establishing Benns Church command. Further investigation found that the bulk of the fire was on the exterior of  the structure and had been extinguished by the occupants. A line was pulled from E-52 for complete extinguishment and overhaul. A thorough search was completed of the interior, attic and crawl space to confirm no extension. The exterior was over hauled and all units cleared at 1800 hours. The cause was determined to be fireplace ashes placed in trash back next to the house.

  Owen Farm Brush Fire

On Sept 27 at 1834 hours Sta. 10 was dispatched to a possible brush fire at 23438 Owen’s Farm Rd. E-10 & B-10 arrived at 1841 to find heavy black smoke and flames showing from both ends of a three foot diameter drain pipe under the road. 103 (S. Brower) established command and requested a second tone for R-10 (for foam) & T-10 for possible water supply. An 1 3/4" line was pulled from E-10 and 10 gallons of 3% AFFF was applied. This knocked down the fire on one end of the pipe, R-10 arrived and an additional 30 gallons AFFF was applied to completely extinguish the fire. Runoff was controlled with dams & dykes, DEQ & DES were contacted as well. The fire started when the home owner was burning brush near the tar coated pipe. The last unit cleared at 2030 hours after VDOT arrived and investigated.

At 1642 hours on September 1, 2006 Sta. 10 & 50 (Smithfield) were dispatched to a structure fire at 24276 Bush Creek Cir. Q-10 arrived at 1648 and found the large ranch house with a full walk in basement heavily involved in fire. (Full Story)
