Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department conducted basic fire safety classes on Friday October 14th 2011 for students at Carrollton Elementary School as a regular part of the all-volunteer department's fire prevention operations. Volunteers take time off from their regular civilian jobs to teach fire safety in the community. Here Lieutenant Myreon Pierce supervises firefighters Andrew Fletcher and Joshua Rodriguez in a demonstration of primary rescue and life saving techniques. The firefighters don full personal protective equipment to show the children what they may expect to see in a fire emergency. The purpose is to reduce the children's natural fear of the "scary looking" gear that firefighters must wear to protect themselves during a rescue search. 350 home fire safety workbook kits were also provided to the students for classroom use.
