Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department EMT and Firefighter volunteer crews practiced patient stabilization and extrication techniques behind Station-10 on Saturday 20 February 2016. State certified training officers set up a simulated emergency scene where a farm worker was accidentally trapped beneath a piece of farm equipment. Such emergencies are not infrequent in the mostly rural and farm environment of Isle of Wight County. Volunteer medical technicians stabilized the “patient” (in this case, Carrollton volunteer “Rescue Randy”) and provided simulated emergency medical care while firefighting crews planned and executed the extrication measures required to rapidly and safely remove the patient from the danger zone for transport to the closest trauma center. The training was deemed successful by the officers present.
