Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at 7:43 p.m. Friday 14 November 2014 for a transport ambulance to respond mutual aid to a "...single vehicle...rollover..." accident on Benn's Church Blvd. in the Town of Smithfield involving an entrapped occupant. Smithfield VFD units Recue-50, Engine-53 and Engine-52 were already on scene conducting an extrication operation and establishing the landing zone (LZ). Isle of Wight Vol. Rescue Squad (IWVRS) unit Medic-63 had arrived for immediate advanced life support medical care for the entrapped patient. Nightingale Air Ambulance was requested due to the anticipated length of time required for extrication. Isle of Wight County Sheriff's Deputies arrived for traffic control and investigation/reporting procedures. The volunteer Carrollton VFD crew in unit Medic-11arrived and treated one patient who refused transport. The IWVRS ALS crew transported the other patient to a nearby LZ and then to the closest level-2 trauma center when it was decided air evacuation was not necessary. M-11 was cleared from the scene at 8:16 p.m. to return to Station-10 and all SVFD units were cleared by 8:31 p.m.
