Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 8:28 a.m. Wednesday 6 August 2014 to a reported "...accident with injuries...possible entrapment...overturned in median strip..." on Carrollton Blvd. at the Eagle Harbor Parkway intersection. Carrollton units Zone-10, Rescue-10 along with transport ambulances Medic-11 and Squad-10 (using IWVRS M-61) responded immediately. Smithfield Vol. Fire Dept. was requested to dispatch Heavy Rescue unit R-50 due to the possibility of two entrapments. First unit on scene advised "...two vehicles involved...heavy damage to both..." The driver of the overturned vehicle self-extricated and was uninjured so arriving medical crews focussed on immediate care and extrication of the driver in the other vehicle. Arriving Isle of Wight Sheriffs Deputies and Virginia State Police units initiated traffic control, investigation and reporting protocols. One patient was transported to the closest emergency trauma facility. R-50 crew conducted HAZMAT control and stabilization operations and assisted with vehicle and debris recovery. All fire/rescue units were cleared from the scene by 9:07 a.m. to return to quarters and Route-10 northbound toward the JRB was reopened to traffic at 9:09 a.m.
