Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at 5:42 p.m. 8 June 2014 to a reported "head-on" collision involving two vehicles on Benns Church Blvd. at the intersection with Riddick Road. Carrollton VFD Engine-10 responded immediately and, because Carrollton VFD transport ambulance Squad-10 was at RRMC with a patient from an earlier call, Isle of Wight Vol. Rescue Squad was requested to respond. Carrollton VFD Assistant Chief G. Rawls arrived on scene within minutes and reported all occupants out of the vehicles, moderate damage to both, airbags deployed but only minor injuries so IWVRS response was cancelled. E-10 crew quickly mitigated HAZMAT oil and fluid spills from both vehicles that were extending into the northbound passing lane endangering other traffic. Isle of Wight Sheriff's Deputy arrived for traffic control, investigation and reporting protocols. Tow trucks responded from Big Tow and Dave's Auto for vehicle recovery operations while E-10 crew remained for scene protection and clean-up assistance. All Carrollton VFD volunteers were cleared by 6:19 p.m. and traffic resumed along Route-10.
