Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at 6:22 p.m. Monday 28 April 2014 to a reported "single vehicle...against tree" at the south end of the James River Bridge in Isle of Wight County, Va. Carrollton VFD vehicle rescue unit Rescue-10 and ambulance transport unit Medic-11 were still on the scene of a motor vehicle collision at the Crittenden Bridge but responded immediately from there. A Smithfield PD unit arrived first and reported "one injury" requiring transport. Carrollton VFD Assistant Chief G. Rawls requested ALS support from Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad and Zone-60 was dispatched. Carrollton VFD M-11 and R-10 crews stabilized the vehicle, extricated the driver onto a stretcher and securely moved the patient into M-11 for transport. The IWVRS crew arrived and assumed patient care to the closest emergency trauma center. R-10 crew remained on scene to assist with vehicle recovery until 7:21 p.m. when the incident was turned over to Virginia State Police and SPD units.
