Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 7:31 p.m. Tuesday 18 February to a reported single vehicle collision on Titus Creek Drive off Smith's Neck Road in Carrollton, VA. Volunteers responded immediately in units Rescue-10, Squad-10, Zone-10 and Chief-10 along with others in POVs. First arriving volunteer on scene reported the vehicle had impacted a tree sustaining heavy damage and two occupants had reportedly fled on foot. Bystanders stated that one of the occupants appeared to have a head injury so Nightingale air ambulance from Sentara Norfolk General Hospital was requested to launch. Isle of Wight Sheriff's units arrived quickly to conduct an extensive search and, upon arrival, the Nightingale helicopter also assisted in the search along with Carrollton VFD units. The two occupants of the vehicle eventually emerged on Titus Court about a half mile from where the collision occurred and patient care was initiated by the S-10 crew at that location. A landing zone was established in a field across from Amazing Grace Stables and one injured patient was transported to the LZ in S-10 for the flight to SNGH. The second patient refused transport and was released into the custody of Isle of Wight Sheriff's deputies. Virginia State Police arrived to begin reporting and investigation protocols and Brown's Automotive arrived to recover the vehicle. All Carrollton units were cleared and available by 9 p.m.
