Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 2:13 p.m. Saturday 15 February 2014 to a reported two vehicle collision with injuries on Carrollton Blvd. at the Northgate Drive intersection in Carrollton, Va. Weather conditions were cold, windy and rainy. Volunteers in transport ambulance Medic-11 and in POVs responded immediately to the scene. The M-11 crew arrived within minutes, identified three possible patients and requested additional transport ambulance support from the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad in Smithfield. Other volunteer crews in Engine-10 and Squad-10 were already involved on an emergency medical call nearby but E-10 responded to this collision scene after becoming available. Two Virginia State Police units also arrived quickly for traffic control and reporting/investigation protocols. Carrollton VFD transport ambulance S-10 was cleared from the earlier call and then also responded to this scene. The IWVRS ambulance unit enroute was cancelled, with thanks, when Carrollton VFD crews identified only two patients who were transported in M-11 to the closest ED. Two tow trucks were called to the scene to recover the damaged vehicles and Carrollton units and crews remained on scene until all vehicle occupants were cared for.
