Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 1943 Thursday 2 January 2014 to a reported two vehicle collision on Smith's Neck Road at the Ballard Creek intersection. Night weather conditions were cold and rainy with limited visibility. Carrollton VFD volunteer crews in Rescue-10 and Squad-10 responded immediately. Volunteer member CPT T. Nunez was first on scene in his POV and reported heavy damage to both vehicles and one minor trauma injury. Isle of Wight County Sheriff's Officer arrived to conduct traffic control and reporting procedures. Volunteer EMS crew in S-10 assumed care for the patient who declined medical transport. Volunteer crew in R-10 assisted with scene protection and remained until released by the Sheriff's Officer. No hazards or fuel spills were reported. Smith's Neck Road was closed to traffic for approximately 90 minutes while vehicle recovery operations were conducted.
