Friday, 25 July 2014, saw nine calls for help from Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department volunteers and Isle of Wight Emergency Services technicians assigned to Station-10. The deployments included five medical emergency calls, one "smell of smoke" response, one "locked vehicle" assist and two requests to transport Santa Claus! Nightingale Air Ambulance service of Norfolk requested the set-up and operation of two simultaneous landing zones (LZ) in order to pick up the Jolly Old Elf in Carrollton and transport him to a Toys For Tots "Santa in July" event at Charlie Daniels Racing in Isle of Wight Industrial Park (IWIP). Santa - in summer garb - arrived at Station-10 about 6 p.m. and was driven aboard fire engine Rescue-10 to an LZ adjacent to the Carrollton Post Office building on Route-17. The Nightingale Air Ambulance landed, Santa boarded the helicopter and was flown to another LZ about five miles away established by the Carrollton VFD Engine-10 crew at IWIP where Santa debarked and was picked up to proceed to the Toys For Tots event. Carrollton Volunteers are always willing to promote the true Spirit of Christmas, even in July!
