Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 2317 Saturday 16 November 2013 to a reported "car vs. power line, subject is out of the truck" on Nike Park Road in front of the former US Army "Capehart" Housing units adjacent to the former Cold War Nike-Ajax anti-aircraft missile site in Carrollton, Virginia. Carrollton VFD units Squad-10 and Rescue-10 responded from Station-10 and arrived within minutes. Carrollton volunteers confirmed no injuries to the driver of the vehicle and reported "pole sliced in half, transformer on ground, power lines low across the road and road shut down." Dominion Power (DP) was notified and Carrollton VFD crews remained on scene with Isle of Wight Sheriff's Officers (IOWSO) to isolate the area, protect residents and control traffic until 0024 Sunday after arrival of DP crews to shut down electric power supply. Virginia State Police and IOWSO Deputies guarded the scene overnight and restricted road traffic until arrival of DP repair apparatus and VDOT road crews. Power was restored early Sunday morning to surrounding neighborhoods when daylight offered the opportunity to assess and repair the damage.
