Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched "automatic aid" 0534 Thursday 14 November 2013 to a reported "structure fire" in the Wellington Estates subdivision of Smithfield, Virginia. First on scene was Carrollton VFD firefighter and Smithfield Police Officer David Adams ( who reported "full fire on back deck" of a two story residence and immediately retrieved his onboard vehicle fire extinguisher and suppressed the fire. Smithfield Volunteer Fire Dept. (SVFD) Engine-52 arrived a minute later and confirmed "small fire on back porch is out." SVFD Chief J. Stallings arrived and assumed fireground command deploying hand lines to thoroughly soak the area exposed to the fire for complete extinguishment and prevention of rekindle. SVFD Truck-50 and Carrollton VFD aerial ladder unit Quint-10 arrived for backup and additional manpower. At 0554 the fire was declared out after verifying no extension into the walls and roof area. Upon confirming the occupants of the home did not require Red Cross assistance, they were allowed to return inside the home. All fire response apparatus and crews cleared the scene by 0644 and returned to quarters.
