Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 0912 Monday 9 September 2013 to a motor vehicle collision on Carrollton Blvd. near the Crittenden Bridge. Carrollton VFD units Medic-11 and Rescue-10 responded immediately and upon arrival on scene reported "Two vehicles involved, heavy damage, one in the ditch." Rapid assessment by the arriving ALS crew identified three trauma patients and requested a second ambulance unit. A volunteer crew arrived at Station-10 and then responded to the scene with Carrollton VFD transport ambulance unit Squad-10. All three patients were extricated and secured on backboards while Virginia State Police units controlled traffic. The patients were transported quickly to local emergency rooms. R-10 remained on scene to assist with clean-up and hazard mitigation. All Carrollton VFD units were available by 1058 and returned to quarters.
