Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 1206 Monday 17 June 2013 as "automatic aide" per emergency dispatch protocol to a "structure fire" on Scott's Factory Road in the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Dept. first response district. Smoke was reported visible from Route-10 several miles away. Smithfield VFD unit Engine-50 arrived first, reported "smoke and flames visible from a detached garage" and initiated an aggressive fire attack with hand lines. SVFD Engine-52 was second to arrive and established water supply to E-50 while SVFD crews continued fire suppression operations. Carrollton VFD unit Quint-10 arrived on scene and the volunteer crew assisted under the direction of Incident Commander SVFD Assistant Chief N. Savage. Chuckatuck VFD Tanker-9 arrived as requested per "mutual aide" protocol and began to supply water to the primary pumper E-50 via E-52. Rushmere VFD Tanker-30 was also requested but cancelled en route. Isle of Wight Vol. Rescue Squad units also arrived to provide medical and rehabilitation service if needed. The fire was reported under control at 1225. Concern for the safety of occupants in the nearby residential structure was alleviated when Isle of Wight Sheriff's Deputies determined they were not at home at the time of the fire. Overhaul operations continued until 1336 when command was terminated and the scene was turned over to the homeowner. Carrollton VFD units were cleared and became available at that time and returned to Station-10.
