Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 0641 Thursday 23 May 2013 to a reported motor vehicle collision in wet weather conditions at the draw span of the James River Bridge. Carrollton VFD units Rescue-10 crew of 4 and Squad-10 crew of 2 responded from Station-10. While the units were en route, a second MVC was reported at the same location. R-10 arrived on scene first and notified Isle of Wight Central Dispatch of several damaged vehicles in both the south and north bound lanes of the bridge. Both lanes were closed to traffic by a Virginia State Police unit on scene. No injuries to vehicle occupants were found. The two damaged vehicles in the northbound lane departed under their own power and one lane was then opened to the rush hour traffic. Southbound lane traffic was halted for 30 minutes while VSP and IoW Sheriff's Deputy units assessed the situation and processed reports. Carrollton volunteer crews assisted with patient care, debris removal and traffic control. All Carrollton units were cleared by 0715 to return via Newport News to Station-10.
