Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched "automatic aide" 1730 Friday 8 March 2013 to a reported structure fire at 747 Wrenn Road in the Jersey Park apartment complex in the Town of Smithfield. Carrollton VFD units Engine-10 and Quint-10 responded at 1732 from Station-10. First arriving unit, an EMS crew from Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad, reported "heavy smoke and fire showing from the second story" of an apartment building. Next arriving was a law enforcement unit that reported "all apartments are evacuated." Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) units arrived on scene and began an aggressive fire attack using ground ladders and hand lines from pump engines supplied by five inch lines from nearby fire hydrants. SVFD unit platform Truck-1 and Carrollton ladder truck Quint-10 were positioned at the "A" side of the structure to allow rapid access to the roof area for ventilation and fire suppression operations. SVFD crews executed a rapid fire attack operation on the second floor and prevented extension of the fire to adjacent apartments. Dominion Power technician arrived to secure the electrical supply to the building and Red Cross representatives arrived to assist four families displaced by the fire which was reported under control at 1821. Carrollton VFD crews were cleared from the scene at 1951 to return to quarters and extensive overhaul operations by SVFD crews continued until 2059 when command was terminated. Carrollton unit Rescue-10 also conducted standby/backfill operations in the SVFD response district until cleared at 2020 to return to quarters.
