Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 1445 Sunday 3 March 2013 to a reported "car flipped and is in the ditch" on Carrollton Blvd. at Pinecrest Lane. Carrollton VFD units Car-10, Rescue-10 and Medic-11 responded immediately and arrived on scene within minutes. First arriving unit advised that the occupant was out of the vehicle and appeared to have only minor injuries. Rescue-10 was placed in a blocking position in the right northbound lane of Carrollton Blvd. to protect the scene and the EMS crew on board rapidly assessed the patient's medical condition. Since the vehicle had rolled over once and come to rest against a fire hydrant the driver was treated according to Mechanism of Injury (MOI) protocols, quickly placed aboard M-11 and transported to the nearest trauma center. Isle of Wight County Public Works was notified to inspect the fire hydrant for possible damage. Isle of Wight County Sheriff's Deputy arrived to investigate and R-10 remained on scene for the vehicle recovery operation. Incident Command was terminated at 1503 and M-11 was cleared from RRMC by 1617. Photos below were shown to the ED staff at RRMC for information and enhanced patient care.
