Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department responded to two separate motor vehicle collisions (MVC) Wednesday 27 Feb. 2013 with heavy damage to the vehicles involved but fortunately no serious injuries in either incident. First dispatch at 1433 was to a single vehicle on its side against the outside guardrail in the northbound lane of the James River Bridge. In addition to Newport News rescue units, Carrollton VFD units Rescue-10 and Squad-10 responded and arrived to find the driver had self extricated and whose injuries required no medical transport. Carrollton units remained on scene until released by Virginia State Police officers.
The second MVC, this one involving two vehicles, was reported at 1714 and Rescue-10, Squad-10, Car-10 and Brush-10 responded to the scene on Carrollton Blvd. at the Omeara Drive intersection. Rapidly arriving units noted heavy damage to both vehicles but no injuries to either occupant. Carrollton VFD units applied HAZMAT fuel absorbent and remained on scene to assist Isle of Wight County Sheriff's Deputy with recovery operations.
