Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 1018 Sunday 24 Feb. 2013 to a reported "Van crashed in ditch hit power pole." Carrollton units Zone-11, Medic-11 and Rescue-10 responded. First unit on scene reported "heavy damage" to the vehicle and "one patient, no entrapment." Carrollton VFD crews with the assistance of a Smithfield VFD member secured the patient to a long backboard and, using rescue rope, hauled the patient up a slippery, muddy slope to the roadway. The patient was then transported in M-11 to the nearest trauma center for treatment. The pole was undamaged except for heavy scarring on the side impacted by the vehicle. R-10 remained to insure scene safety as the vehicle was recovered and all Carrollton units were cleared from the scene at 1155 by the Isle of Wight Sheriff's department.

Note: This was a third simultaneous event for Carrollton VFD. Squad-10 had already responded to an ALS medical call on Longview Drive and Zone-11 was at Nike Park on medical standby duty for the annual "Kickin' it for Cancer" benefit soccer tournament.
