Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 0348 Tuesday 12 February 2013 to a reported car fire on Nike Park Road in the vicinity of Reynolds Drive. Carrollton VFD Engine-10 responded along with several volunteer firefighters in POVs. First arriving unit reported the vehicle fully involved and noted elements on scene of a suspicious nature. E-10 arrived and the crew used the front bumper hand line to quickly extinguish the fire. Isle of Wight Sheriff's Department (IWSD) was quickly dispatched based on reports from on-scene personnel. Virginia State Police, IWSD K-9 unit and other law enforcement and investigative units also eventually responded to the scene. Carrollton VFD crew was also requested to pry open the hood and trunk of the vehicle to assist the investigation. Several local TV crews and print media representatives arrived to report on the incident which was broadcast live as "breaking news" throughout Hampton Roads. Carrollton VFD crews remained on scene to assist until 0713 when cleared by law enforcement incident command.
