Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 1720 Friday 17 February 2012 to a reported motor vehicle collision at the Laurelwood intersection on Route-17 as "vehicle flipped...driver is smoking." Carrollton units Squad-10, Rescue-10, Car-10 and Engine-10 responded. Captain Bryan Hubbard arrived first at 1723 and reported the vehicle upright in a ditch with subject still inside and assumed incident command. S-10 and R-10 arrived and EMT crews initiated a rapid trauma assessment of the driver, determined no injuries were incurred and obtained a "refusal of transport" from the patient. Isle of Wight Sheriff's Deputies and Virginia State Police (VSP) units conducted traffic control and investigation operations while Carrollton VFD crews assisted with HAZMAT control and electrical neutralization of the vehicle. Command was terminated at 1732 when scene control was transferred to VSP and all Carrollton VFD units and crews were made available.
