Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 1536 Wednesday 6 July 2011 to a reported head-on MVC on Smith's Neck Road near Boundary Road. This was a "third call" for Station-10 and automatic aid from Stations 50 and 60 was immediately requested. Carrollton VFD units Rescue-10 and Zone-11 responded together with Smithfield VFD units Rescue-51and Engine-52 as well as Isle of Wight VRS units Medic-61 and -64. CVFD member C. Mullen (150) arrived on scene first and reported one occupant trapped in the white minivan, one other BLS patient from the second vehicle (black truck) and two other vehicle occupants (minivan) had left the scene. SVFD Chief J. Stallings (501) arrived and assumed operational command of the extrication. CVFD, SVFD, IWVRS, IWSD and VSP units arrived on scene in rapid succession. The two other occupants of the minivan, a pregnant female and a juvenile were located and transported by IWVRS medic unit to RRMC. IWVRS Chief B. Carroll (601) arrived to supervise care of the trapped occupant and established continuous IV fluid and O2 flow via NRB to the patient. Nightingale air ambulance was unable to fly due to severe wind and rain conditions prevailing throughout the region. Isle of Wight County Emergency Services Chief R. Chase (ES-1) also arrived on scene to assist with coordination of rescue operations. After extrication, the patient was transported by IWVRS medic unit to RRMC. Rescue-10 remained to provide scene protection during clean-up operations and all units were clear and available by 1834.
