Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched "automatic aid" 1547 Sunday 16 October 2011 to a reported structure fire at 1008 Wilson Road in the Town of Smithfield. Carrollton units Quint-10 and Engine-10 responded at 1548 with full crews and arrived on scene at 1601. D. Rastatter assumed command of all Carrollton crews. Smithfield VFD units E-51, E-53 and R-50 arrived as well as Isle of Wight VRS ambulance unit M-61 for rehab. First arriving SVFD unit at 1551 reported working fire conditions with heavy smoke showing from the attic vents of the one story wood frame building and initiated an immediate fire attack. E-51 laid 1000 feet of five inch line from the nearest hydrant to establish the primary water source for all fire attack units on scene. Upon arrival at 1601 Carrollton VFD unit Q-10 crew was assigned ladder operations and E-10 crew supplied crews for overhaul operations. The fire was reported under control at 1614 and Dominion Power and Columbia Gas crews arrived to secure power and gas line sources. American Red Cross representatives arrived on scene to provide assistance to the building occupants. Command was terminated at 1815 with Carrollton unit Q-10 returning and E-10 dispatched to Smithfield VFD Station-50 at 1723 for stand-by operations while Smithfield VFD were restocked and resupplied. E-10 was released at 1819 to return to Station-10.
