On June 6, 2013 Carrollton Volunteer FD Medic-11 unit escorted Virginia State Police Special Olympics Torch Run through Carrollton. This annual fund raising torch relay through Hampton Roads is sponsored by the VSP and benefits Special Olympics athletes by calling attention to the needs of the disabled. Medic-11 crew provided "standby" rolling medical support from the Crittenden Bridge, across the James River Bridge, and onto the Peninsula.

Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department's Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians Crystal Gravel and Shelby Hamilton hold their certificates awarded by Riverside Regional Medical Center (RRMC) for excellence in first response patient care. The two technicians responded 6 February 2013 from Station-10 in Carrollton to an emergency medical dispatch for "chest pains." Arriving within minutes, the two technicians quickly assessed the life-threatening cardiac condition of the patient, administered immediate emergency care and transmitted the data via telemetry modem on the ambulance to the Emergency Room (ER) of RRMC. This quick-thinking action enabled the ER cardiology team to prepare for the patient's imminent arrival by Carrollton VFD transport ambulance Squad-10 and to initiate Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) or "balloon angioplasty" using a catheter threaded through an artery. In the words of Jeffrey Smith, EMS Coordinator for the RRMC Trauma Center, the two technicians, "...quick identification and response truly made all the difference in the world for this patient's outcome." Carrollton VFD's Crystal Gravel and Shelby Hamilton represent the best of Hampton Roads regional volunteer first-response Emergency Medical Service (EMS).

January 31st was not just the last day of the month for Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department but ended up as one of our busiest 24 hours. Seven emergency dispatches today resulted in a total of 102 calls in the first month of 2013.

Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 1201Thursday 31 January 2013 by "fourth alarm" to provide assistance to units arriving on scene at a residential structure fire on Track Lane in the Rushmere section of northern Isle of Wight County.

Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched 1534 Tuesday 15 January 2013 to a reported motor vehicle collision with a car "in the woods with airbags deployed" off Reynolds Drive near the Nike Park Road intersection. Carrollton VFD units Rescue-10, Medic-11 and several volunteers in POVs responded to the scene. VSP unit on scene reported no injuries with all occupants out of the vehicle and recommended all responding Carrollton VFD units downgrade their response to non-emergency. First arriving Carrollton VFD units confirmed VSP report, noted minor damage to the vehicle and remained on scene to protect the area for the safety of on-scene personnel and also to check for hazards.
